Mental Health Matters: Television that changes minds
Mental Health Matters, an exciting partnership between TVO and CAMH, aims to bring about a better understanding of mental
illness and addiction.
Raising awareness is crucial. One in five Canadians will be affected by mental illness in their lifetime, but only a third
are likely to seek the treatment they need.
TVO’s The Agenda, Big Ideas, TVOKids, TVOParents, Allan Gregg in Conversation, Saturday Night at the Movies, and TVO Doc Studio are
all featuring special programming dedicated to mental health and addictions, culminating in Mental Health Week May 5-13. TVO
has also created a microsite with web-excusive content. CAMH experts will be featured throughout.
“We are very excited to partner with TVO on this initiative,” said Dr. Catherine Zahn, President and CEO, CAMH. “Television
is a very powerful medium, and through provocative programming that examines the issues surrounding mental illness, we hope
that people will be inspired to discover new ideas, discuss them openly and demand attention to this critical issue.”
