Stress and neurons

Can we study how stress affects biological pathways in different cells?
[Answer]
The brain’s somatostatin neurons are linked to symptoms of depression and other mood-related problems, but not much is known about how somatostatin leads to these symptoms.
These images show single cells being collected by laser capture microdissection. Two types of neurons are shown: somatostatin and pyramidal. The image shows the tissue before and after collection of specific single cells. This method is used to capture and analyze changes at the level of single cell types.
The purpose is to look at how chronic stress affects biological pathways in somatostatin cells compared to pyramidal cells.
